Defeating Cancer, One Step at a Time

The Cure Steppers are a part of the Relay for Life of Claremont, NH, which raises money by walking 18 hours.  They take to heart their Relay for Life Mission Statement: Motivated ~ Inspirational ~ Survivors~ Services ~ Informative ~ Organization ~ Never give up!

Erica Girard, the team’s recruiter, used the Popcorn Palace fundraiser to help raise money towards the 2012 goal of $7,500 for the American Cancer Society. “The money we raise helps fund for different cancer researching, “ says Erica, “ Every dollar raised is needed in more ways than one and we are hoping that one day Relay For Life will be a thing of the past, as their will be no cancer.”

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, advocacy, and services.

Did you know…

  • Every $250 provides 83 hours of toll-free access for the American Cancer Society’s National Cancer Information Center. The center receives 1.2 million calls every year to its 24-hour toll-free line, 1-800-ACS-2345, where specialists answer questions about cancer treatment options and local cancer resources
  • Every $120 provides researchers with a case 144 petri dishes – allowing them to theories into cancer cures
  • $1,000 provides expenses for a patient to stay for free during cancer treatment in one of the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge facilities located in major cities nationwide
  • $500 helps provide visits to five women from the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery program. This program introduces breast cancer patients to select survivors who can answer questions and provide emotional support
  • Donations allow kids with cancer to attend a camp run by the American Cancer Society for free
