Mother’s Day Contest – Win Mom Popcorn!

Treat your mom to something special this Mother’s Day with Popcorn Palace popcorn!  To enter, post a note to your mom on your Facebook wall, explaining why she deserves Popcorn Palace popcorn. Make sure to tag your mom and Popcorn Palace in the note.

For example, “I’d give my mom @Your Mom’s Name @Popcorn Palace popcorn, because…”

The note with the most likes wins a Flowers Signature Tin 3-way (2 gallon)!

Saving an Animal One Day at a Time

Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (AAVA) is a non profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization located in South Louisiana. One of their main goals is to rescue pets from the local animal control facility, i.e. the pound. What makes the situation at Animal Aid for Vermillion different is that the pounds do not have an adoption program to the public. Unless the pet is reclaimed by owners within 4 days, they are euthanized.  In addition, there is a court order forbidding overcrowding which means one dog per cage.

Adoptable Pets through AAVAHowever thanks to an agreement between the Parish and AAVA, pets can be ‘pulled’ from the facility by 501(c)3 organizations. AAVA makes frequent visits to the pound, take pictures, and post on various lists such as Petfinder, Pets911, and AdoptaPet.  In addition,  they teach the importance of spaying and neutering.

To date, they have rescued thousands of animals, worked through 5 natural disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They have also helped pass the Pet Evacuation Bill that keeps service animals and pets from being left behind during a disaster.

“AAVA has almost maxed out their credit limit at the vet clinic that holds animals for a while before they are sent to AAVA,” says Mariya,” I am trying my best to help them financially, but I am not able to help cover bills. I make a donation when I can afford to, but it is not sufficient.  The fundraising profits will help in proving veterinary care, food, shelter, and a way out the gassing facility.”

Easter Contest – Win Popcorn!

Popcorn Palace wants to celebrate Easter with you, our fans and so we’re giving away popcorn every day this week! All you need to do is “Like” us on Facebook and watch our wall. We’ll be posting a new easter picture every day and you try to correctly identify the popcorn flavors in the picture (eg. Top Right = Lightly Salted). The first person to correctly ID each flavor will win it.

Dances with Smiles

N-Spire Praise Dance Group initially established out of Hanley Elementary School in Memphis about 4 years ago. The group consists of inner-city girls from the Memphis, Tennessee area, who dance for various events in and around Memphis.

The doors opened to the community when most of the group of girls graduated from the school, thus allowing non Hanley Elementary students to participate. The girls have blessed many people with their gift of dance and the dance group has no intentions of quitting anytime soon.

“The profits will benefit our organization in 2 specific ways,” says Cynthia Loyd-Johnson, “We are in desperate need of new dance uniforms.  We are also preparing to take the girls to Disney World in Orlando this July for 4 days. We want to reward them for being dedicated to the group and we simply don’t have the money to purchase new uniforms or take them to Orlando without extra help.”

The Gift of Giving

On Wednesday nights in Perryton, TX, the Victory Kiddos ministry conducts church service at Victory Family Church.  The church wanted to teach the 5 to 12 year olds about the joy of giving to others and through a parishioner’s recommendation; they stumbled upon Operation Christmas Child (OCC) through Samaritan’s Purse.

For over 40 years, Samaritan’s Purse has aided the world’s poor, sick and suffering by providing education, food, clothing and shelter programs in over 200 different countries.  The mission of OCC is reached by having people fill empty shoe boxes with all kinds of toys, toiletries, candy, stickers, books, and clothes.  The boxes are wrapped in Christmas paper and labeled to a boy or girl and age.

The ministry collected empty shoe boxes from all over our town for a couple months and wrapped them.  The proceeds of the Popcorn Palace fundraiser allowed the ministry to buy items to fill the boxes. To make the event more fun, the church organized a box filling party.  Each box must be carefully packed as all the boxes are inspected at the processing centers.

“Our goal was to send 50 shoe boxes to OCC.  We did that!  And we had plenty left over to send a check along with our boxes to help with the shipping costs,” said Gayle Bishop, “ Since this was a success, we have decided to annually raise money for OCC.”
